Preparing for College:

SEPTEMBER

• Attend college (fairs) night programs
• Attend college planning/financial aid programs. To receive financial aid, you must apply for it. Be sure to consult your high school counselor and the colleges you’re interested in on the various sources for financial aid/scholarships
• Narrow the list of college choices to your top five

OCTOBER

• Begin to fill out applications: Apply Online
• Obtain letters of recommendation
• Attend college open houses

NOVEMBER

• Begin collecting tax return information
• Obtain the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

DECEMBER

• Check requirements and deadlines for scholarships

JANUARY

• Mail the FAFSA as soon as possible; some states have special tuition assistance plans whose deadlines vary. Make sure your application file is complete.
